Quick Take: 2026 GMC Sierra 1500

EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan takes a test drive in a new GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck that wears its off-road prowess proudly, with American Expedition Vehicles gear attached to the AT4X version.

There’s a prominent AEV-upgrade boron steel skid plate, one of five under this truck; AEV stamped steel front and rear bumpers with front winch capability; Multimatic DSSV spool valve dampers; and a 2-inch factory lift.

Inside, with 11.5-inches of ground clearance, you grab the leather-wrapped grab handles, or the steering wheel, and pull yourself up into black leather seats. The 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is clear and concise, with a basic 140-mph speedometer and 6,000 rpm tach, or other designs. Climb into the rear bench seat, and there’s lots of head and leg room. That 6-foot-long bed has lots of room too, while that 6.2-liter V-8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque can tow up to 9,000-lbs. And with 11 inches of ground clearance, we rumbled over anything..

Quick Take: 2026 Ram 1500 Limited 4×4 Crew Cab

EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan takes a test drive in a 2026 Ram 1500 Limited 4×4 Crew Cab, a big, luxurious family-size pickup truck with a revived HEMI V-8, and eTorque – a mild hybrid system that adds to the fun and is said to save gas.

This is the fifth-generation of the full-size Ram, with sleeker headlights on edgy fenders with a smooth shape, but big shoes – 45R22-inch Pirelli Scorpion rubber. That power dome hood has “1500 E-TORQUE” badges, while those fenders bear “Symbol of Protest” badges – showing the HEMI is back after a year of absence. That cargo bed is big, narrowed a bit by rear fender top Ram Boxes – lockable storage bins with drains for tailgating snacks.

Inside, cocooning black leather buckets with lots of leather, stitching and wood accents – plus a big digital gauge display, then a center 14.4‑inch Infotainment Touchscreen flanked by real buttons for climate control, traction and lane-keep systems. Someone called it a “limousine” for its ride and comfort, with decent room in back for two (even three) more adults. And that the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, with 395 hp and 409-lb-ft of torque, works with a 48-volt battery pack and e-Torque system to provide quick engine start/stop, torque addition to the engine crankshaft, and brake energy regeneration for responsiveness and efficiency.

Quick Peek Review: 2025 Nissan Frontier Shows Off Hardbody

Photo: Nissan

EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan has the new compact truck to test, and the 2025 Nissan Frontier been freshened as well as given a taste of its 1980’s self, when it was known as the Hardbody.

This generation Frontier is three years old, and gets a bolder face with some Hardbody cue, plus a neatly revamped interior look with more tech, yet the same utility we like in a Frontier – like a 6,700-lb. tow rating and as high as 22 mpg.

Off Road Ready and Room for the Spare: 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison

EV Rider reviewer Dan Scanlan has the new 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison to play with on – and off road.

Thanks to a collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), it’s got stronger bumpers, boron-steel skidplates, Multimatic shocks, special wider wheels – and even more off-road specific gear. There’s room for four – and a spare that’s handy, mounted in the bed.
