Jacksonville Car Culture events calendar

Seventh Annual San Jose Car & Truck Show at Dupont Station: 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, at the shopping center at 6271 St Augustine Road, Jacksonville. Sponsored by Jacksonville Car Culture and presented by Key Buick/GMC Hyundai, Genesis, and North Florida Lincoln, show vehicle registration at the gate is $25 per, all proceeds donated to the Bishop John J. Snyder Community Center , a HUD subsidized property for low-income seniors of all faiths that receives no funding from HUD.

Caffeine and Octane – 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, at The Avenues mall’s south side at 10300 Southside Blvd.

This time, Audis are invited to show off in a special display area…

And AMG Mercedes-Benzes are invited as well…

An estimated 1,000-plus cars, trucks and more are expected at the free cruise-in. And remember – Caffeine and Octane Jacksonville is an all makes, all models show, with all parking spots first come/first serve. Cars should start arriving by 7 a.m. to the Southside Boulevard side of the shopping mall, the best way in through Malabar Boulevard.
As always, there will be a Porsche section, and an exotics area, as well as hundreds of vintage and classic cars, muscle cars and so much more.

Motorcycle Concours

22nd Annual Riding Into History Antique Motorcycle Concours: Motorcycle designer Paul Teutul Jr. is Grand Marshal for the annual Riding Into History concours on April 22 and 23 at World Golf Village, 1 World Golf Place in St. Augustine. On Friday, April 22, it is the Grand Marshal Tour Presented by Hagerty, allowing owners to ride their vintage bike through the back roads of historic Florida. Then comes the Grand Marshals Dinner at 6 p.m. Friday, April 22, at the World Golf Hall of Fame, at $80 per person. Hundreds of classic and special interest motorcycles will be on display from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, around the lake at World Golf Village.

There is no entry fee for qualified motorcycles at the concours, and registration closes at midnight, April 14. Admission is $15 per person for spectators. All donations go to K9s for Warriors. More information is at ridingintohistory.org.

20^th annual Jacksonville Grand Prix to Benefit Spina Bifida: 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at the 103rd Street Sports Complex at 10271 103^rd St. The annual endurance go-kart race sees teams of drivers compete as they and the event raise funds for Spina Bifida of Jacksonville. 17^th annual Railroad Day Festival and Classic Car Show: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the1881 Callahan Train Depot at 45383 Dixie Ave. in Callahan. Live entertainment, arts/crafts and food vendors, model trains and a classic car show hosted by Callahan Cruisers and Cochrane’s Collision Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds will go to the West Nassau Historical Society.

Shindler Drive Baptist Church Cruise-in and Car Show: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church at 710 Shindler Drive.

One Church Car-B-Que: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at One Church at 324 5^th St. North in Jacksonville Beach.  

Dope Illustrations Spring Show-off: 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday April 9, at Callahan Speedway, 543455 U.S. 1 The car and truck show will raise money for the planned dragstrip at the track, so spectator admission is $10 per person, while show vehicle registration is $25 per.

First Coast Car Council’s Cruisin’ to the Creek Spring Car Show: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at Trout Creek Memorial Park and Marina at 6550 Florida 13 in Orangedale south of Saint Johns/Fruit Cove. The show benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville.

Easter Car and Truck Pop Out Car Show: 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday April 16 at Johnny Tire Service Unlimited at 2060 W. 21^st St. Spectators are $5 each; $20 show vehicle registration.

Paxon Revival Center Church 60^th Anniversary Car Show: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at the church at 5461 Commonwealth Ave. Free.

Rumble at the Ranch – Hot Rod vs Rat Rod: May 5 through 7 at WW Motocross Park, 1439 Otis Road in Jacksonville. The event features burnout contests with a $1,500 purse, car show and other events.

12th Annual Rev It Up! Car Show: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at Moosehaven, 1701 Park Ave. in Orange Park. Show vehicles are $20 pre-registered to May 1; $25 after.

Third annual Hot Rodz 4 Kids Car and Bike Show: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday May 28, at First United Methodist Church of Callahan, 449648 U.S. 301. Proceeds go to children’s medical, educational and nutritional needs.

The FIRM (Florida International Rally and Moto Park): Open Track Days held most weekends at the road course and rally course at 7266 Airport Road in Starke.

And finally…

The red, white and blue of Jacksonville’s most iconic racing team will return on June 26, as The Brumos Collection announced that its iconic No. 59 livery will return to professional competition at the 100^th running of The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, aka “The Race to the Clouds.”

Here’s a rendering of what the car will look like in that iconic livery:

The Brumos Collection

And race car driver David Donohue, who raced for Brumos Racing in its IMSA days, will be driving a Porsche GT2 RS Clubsport up the famous 12.42-mile, 156-turns course to the finish line at 14,115 feet above sea level. Prepared in the iconic Brumos red, white, and blue livery, this event is the first competition for Brumos since 2013, when it retired from 50 years of competing in a variety of series and classes.

“Racing for Brumos has been a highlight of my career that I look back on with pride,” Donohue said. “I feel humbled to play a role in bringing back the number 59 to such a special race and its milestone running.”

Pikes Peak is Donohue’s 120th race driving for Brumos. He was part of the team that brought Brumos its fourth overall win at the 24 hours of Daytona in 2009, more than 30 years after three Brumos victories in 1973, 1975 and 1978. For Donohue, son of famed race-car driver and 1972 Indy 500 champion Mark Donohue, the win came on the 40th anniversary of his father’s 1969 overall triumph in the same race. The 2009 win was the culmination of then-Brumos CEO Bob Snodgrass’s stewardship of the Daytona Prototype program, which began in the early 2000s, and built upon Brumos nearly 50 years of competing in a variety of series and classes.

After Brumos retired from racing in 2013, the Jacksonville-based dealership was sold in 2016. But its racing heritage, as well as a collection of open-wheel Indianapolis race cars and other classics, now live at the 35,000 sq. ft. Brumos Collection.

“When we opened our collection in 2020, I was asked if we would ever race again,” Brumos Collection founder Dano Davis said. “Only two years later – and on the tail-end of a global pandemic – we’re taking on a storied, historic race with David as our driver. From the collection to the track, the iconic 59 will now once again fly.”

The museum facility opened in 2020 to the public at 5959 San Pablo Road S., more information at thebrumoscollection.com.

The plan is to have BBI Autosport prepare the car for Brumos in May, with support from Porsche of the Main Line in Philadelphia and Porsche Colorado Springs.

“Being back in Brumos colors is just unbelievably exciting for me, beyond words,” Donohue said.

And ultimately, the new Brumos GT2 RS Clubsport will join the many cars celebrating milestones at the Brumos Collection in Jacksonville.
