Staker Production’s Endless Summer Showcase 4/Downtown Edition: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, in the grassy field across from Decca Live at 323 E. Bay St. Organizers are shutting down East Bay Street and utilizing the waterfront grass area to host the event, with a full stage setup, vendors and display vehicles from across Florida and Georgia. Cars & Cannons: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, at Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach. The annual event is $50 for pre-2001 cars and trucks, and $75 for Jaguars, the featured marque. Spectators must pay the $6 per vehicle for 2 to 8 people, $4 for a single-occupant vehicle or motorcycle, and $2 for pedestrians or bicyclists for park entry, then an extra fee of $2.50 per person to get into the fort, but all show proceeds benefit of Fort Clinch State Park.

It was the buzz heard ‘round the world – Dodge has reignited a legendary nameplate during the 60th anniversary of the Dodge Charger with the launch of 2027 Charger Super Bee Launch Edition.
This will be an SAE-certified 600-hp evolution of the SIXPACK-powered Charger, engineered to attack with more power, more cooling, more braking and more repeatable performance from the next generation of American muscle.
The Super Bee has the twin-turbo SIXPACK H.O. engine with a custom engine calibration, larger 56mm Garrett turbos and enhanced thermal capacity. It will have massive 16-inch Brembo brakes standard for the first time on the SIXPACK Charger, plus 20-by-11-inch wheels with 305 summer tires standard for more grip, functional aerodynamics and adaptive damping suspension.
“The Super Bee name has always stood for maximum Dodge attitude: bold, accessible performance with the hardware to back it up,” said Matt McAlear, Dodge CEO. “With the new 2027 Dodge Charger Super Bee Launch Edition, we’re not just bringing back a legendary badge, we’re honoring that legacy by outperforming every vehicle that’s adorned the Super Bee badge since 1968.”

Clemson University
It’s named Deep Orange 17, a solar-integrated electric vehicle prototype designed by Clemson University to generate more energy than it consumes during a typical day of urban commuting.
Developed in collaboration with BMW’s research and development team, the boxy prototype integrates solar technology, lightweight engineering and intelligent vehicle controls to demonstrate that energy-positive mobility is possible, according to the university’s Deep Orange program. That is where graduate automotive engineering students design, engineer and build a fully functional prototype alongside industry partners.
Clemson University
It was BMW that challenged the graduate students back in 2024 to rethink a big question: Could a vehicle generate more energy than it consumes during everyday driving?
So the team focused on how people actually use their vehicles every day – i.e., they spend most of their time parked. So there’s the opportunity to harvest solar energy throughout the day. But students also designed the vehicle to capture solar energy while driving, a continuous source of energy generation during everyday use.
“This is a project we’ve wanted to pursue for years, so it’s incredibly rewarding to see this group of students come together over the last two years, overcome so many technical challenges and constraints, and bring an energy-positive vehicle to life,” said Stephan Augustin, Project Manager of Research and New Technologies at BMW.
Clemson University
The car has more than 1,700 photovoltaic cells integrated into its exterior surfaces, developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE. The vehicle generated enough surplus solar energy to provide an average of 31 miles of additional driving range
The car also weighs only 1,212 pounds, made with aluminum, carbon fiber structural members and 3D-printed metal joints to maximize strength while minimizing mass. And the design is a bit fishy – it mimics the boxfish, whose streamlined body naturally reduces drag while maintaining interior volume.
Research will continue at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research in Greenville, S.C. Deep Orange 17 will be featured at the 2027 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Ford has a new mid-size electric pickup truck coming next year.
And it has a new name for the truck – Fathom – as well as a promise that it will start at under $30,000 – but no picture yet.
In a news release sent out a few days ago, Ford says they looked long and hard for a new name.
“The team scoured the Ford archives, looking at how this company has named vehicles for more than a century, from the Galaxie and Taurus to Ford’s first vehicle that bridged the gap between car and truck, the Ranchero (a precursor to the El Camino),” it says. “Each option came with a specific implication, one that might not fit our new electric truck.”
The truck will be built on a new platform, called Universal EV. Ford also projects that the Fathom will have more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, with a large, high-resolution touch screen, bidirectional power capability, digital key, as well as a frunk and bed for added cargo flexibility. It will also seat five adults, and be BlueCruise autonomous capable as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capable.
Available for pre-order in early 2027, Ford says its midsize electric truck with standard-range battery will have a starting MSRP of $28,350, competing “in the heart of the affordable EV market.”
