Don was an avid car guy who often drove his personally-restored yellow 1957 BMW Isetta, with a tiny 300-cc engine making 13 horsepower, to shows. He was also a veteran auto race and BMW Club member and driving instructor. He passed away in early April.

The 1977 Porsche 934.5 that carried Peter Gregg and Brumos to that year’s Trans-Am Championship is making a rare trip to The Brumos Collection in Jacksonville – and a special event on June 19 will see it joined by two of the people who know it best: former Brumos Crew Chief Jack Atkinson and car owner Bob Weber.

Atkinson was instrumental during the Brumos glory years in the 1970s, and will take guests behind the scenes of the title-winning season, as well as the restoration that returned the car to its original Brumos Racing configuration.

After passing through multiple owners, Weber bought the race car in 2003, and enlisted Atkinson and former Brumos Lead Mechanic Paul Willison to restore it. Once returned to its original glory, the 934.5 was shown at many concours through the years. Now, it’s coming home to join many other famous Brumos racing machines on display at the museum at 5159 San Pablo Road S. for a short time only – and this event.

The event starts at 6 p.m. at the collection, tickets $75 per person, and can be reserved at https://events.leapevents.com/tickets/inside-the-59-live-26/tag/mailchimp?mc_cid=94197e255a&mc_eid=2cb97d67c4. Event admission includes soft drinks, beer/wine and light refreshments.
